Watering Ordinance
The City needs to produce an adequate water supply for everyday use in homes, businesses, and for fire protection. During high demand periods, water supply can diminish to dangerously low levels.
The City's watering policy recognizes environmental issues and increased desire to conserve natural resources. In addition to the odd/even policy, the City restricts watering between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily (regardless of address). This is the period of time which creates the most evaporation and provides the least amount of benefit for the lawn and gardens. Evaporation rates during this period can be between 30 and 40 percent. Some studies have indicated that daytime watering may be damaging to the grass blades and plant leaves because the water droplets can act as small magnifying glasses, causing them to burn.
We ask that all residents and businesses please comply with these restrictions. Upon any violation, the City may issue written warnings and administrative fines.
