Summer Art Camps
The City of Anoka is excited to partner with Rumriver Art Center to offer some amazing in person summer art camps at Peninsula Point Park and Akin Riverside Park in Anoka. These parks offer shelters, restrooms and parking.
The art camps are for adults 55+ and are limited to 10 people. Camps will be 5 days Monday through Friday for 3 hours each day. All art materials will be included. The cost of each camp is $100; scholarships are available. All social distancing guidelines will be followed. Participants must wear a mask or face shield while taking a class.
Urban Sketchbook: June 28 - July 2, 9 a.m.-Noon. Akin Riverside Park, 1721 River Ln. This beautiful park is just a short walk to downtown Anoka. Downtown Anoka offers students an endless amount of subject matter for their sketchbook. Students will use heavyweight paper with pencils, pens and watercolor palette to create their vision. Register here.
Art Journaling in Nature: July 26 - July 30, 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Peninsula Point Park, 1460 S. Ferry St. Nature is an open canvas as we look outside to find our subject. Observational drawing is a tool that encourages looking closely and recording what you experience. Students will create a nature sketchbook of their very own and head outside to draw about what they see, hear, smell and wonder. Students will have chance to use pencil, charcoal, pastels and watercolor to create their vision. Register here.
Nature Watercolor: August 16 - August 20, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Peninsula Point Park, 1460 S. Ferry St. Watercolor is delightful, fresh, exciting, messy, delicate and tender, all at the same time. It is an enormously popular painting medium and has been since the nineteenth century. The most brilliant quality of watercolors is transparency and in this camp students will learn how to use it in their watercolor paintings, how to use the palette, to mix color in order to have the right shade, and a lot about brushes and brushstrokes. Plus, students will learn composition, light and form, tonal painting, and negative space. Register here.
