Road Work Ahead

2023 Street Renewal Project (SRP): Franklin Area Phase I

The 2023 project will involve the complete reconstruction of 0.70 miles of city streets, including the replacement of the concrete curb & gutters, bituminous pavement, sidewalks, street lights, driveways, sanitary sewer, watermain, and service laterals. The streets to be reconstructed includes portions of Calhoun Street (State Ave to Branch Ave), Clay Street (State Ave to Branch Ave), State Avenue (W Main St to Highway 10), and Wingfield Avenue (W Main St to Highway 10). The contractor for this project is Kuechle Underground, Inc. from Kimball, Minnesota. The full-time project inspector for the project is Dave St. Dennis. The city contractor is now on-site and working on underground utilities. The following is the tentative schedule for the project:

  • Underground utilities work through early September
  • Road preparation and curb & getter installation in mid-September
  • Street pavement in late September
  • Boulevard restoration in October


Harrison Street Surface Improvement Project

The project involves the reconstruction of the street surface, including the reclamation of the bituminous pavement, bituminous pavement, spot replacement of the concrete curb & gutters, storm sewer reconstruction only as necessary, pavement markings, and pedestrian ramps reconstruction to meet current Americans with Disabilities ADA standards. The limits of the project are Harrison Street from 3rd Avenue to 7th Avenue.

Anoka Highway 10 Project

 The City of Anoka and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) are working together to reconstruct aging roads and bridges on Highway 10 from the west City limit line with Ramsey to just east of the 7th Avenue interchange. The two-year reconstruction project began this spring and construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2024. When completed, the Highway 10 Anoka project will improve traffic flow, decrease congestion, increase safety, and improve mobility within Anoka.

 Construction impacts occurring during the 2023 construction season thru November include the following:

  • Head to head driving lane in each direction on Highway 10 thru the construction zone
  • Lane widths reduced to 11-feet
  • Ongoing ramp closures to & from Highway 10
  • Local road closures
  • Temporary traffic signal at the intersection of McKinley Street & Saint Francis Boulevard (TH 47)
  • Temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Pierce Street (CSAH 30)/Pleasant Avenue & 4th Avenue (CSAH 31)
  • Temporary traffic signal at the intersection of the westbound Highway 10 ramps & 7th Avenue (CSAH 7)
  • Temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 10/169 & Cutters Lane
  • Temporary loop entrance ramp for southbound 7th Avenue to eastbound Highway 10
  • Long term closure of Ferry Street (TH 47/Hwy 169) at Highway 10
  • Fairoak Avenue underpass opened under Highway 10 between West Main Street extension & Main Street Service Road
  • Thurston Avenue closed under Highway 10 between West Main Street extension & Vista Way until November of 2023
  • West Main Street extension now opened connecting Fairoak Avenue to Main Street
  • Highway 10 access changes and road closures throughout the construction season
  • U.S. Highway 10/160 Ramsey Gateway Highway temporary widening project under construction through November

PLAN FOR MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACTS, DELAYS, CONGESTION, AND INCONVENIENCES DURING CONSTRUCTION. 

 

Prepare for traffic delays on Highway 10 by the following: 

  • Check real-time traffic before traveling: 511.org, call 511 or use the 511mn application 
  • Take alternative routes to avoid the construction zone 
  • Allow for plenty of extra travel time 
  • Plan around rush hour/peak traffic times 
  • Use Metro Transit buses, NorthStar commuter rail, carpool, or telecommute 
  • Follow the posted detour routes for the safety of the community 
  • Avoid cutting through residential neighborhoods
